“The Size of A Mustard Seed” is a very engaging book right from the opening paragraph.
“It wasn’t just some corny saying. That old adage about time couldn’t be truer. It really does fly, I thought to myself. I was sitting on the floor of my bedroom in my favourite plaid pajamas, holding the Qu’ran in my hands, reciting the fifteenth chapter of the night in a lowmumble. The wind blew through the trees outside, and the branches tapped against my windows. In that moment, I was reminded of Allah’s greatness. Allah is able to hear and see everything all by Himself. Even when I’m alone, I’m never by myself. Though I’d be lying if I said it didn’t feel like it sometimes”
Umm Juwayriyah, also known as veiled writer, is an American born and raised Muslim in her late twenties. Umm Juwayriyah has been writing and performing Islamic inspired poetry and fiction for a number of years. “The Size of A Mustard Seed” is about Jameelah Salih, a 27-year-old single Muslim woman living in post 9/11 New England. Jameelah is the eldest of three children born by her parent. With Imam Abdullah’s proposal and Adam her brother acting strange,Jameelah doesn’t know if she could handle it.
This novel is one of a kind and I would absolutely recommend it to all mostly older teens and adults. It has few grammatical and typographical errors but the message is very clear and that’s what‘s important. This book is in the Covered Pearls series and “The Size of A Mustard Seed” is the first book.
